“I pulllll uppp! An-ti-cipating. Gooood luh-uhhh don’t keep me waiting. I got plansss to put my handssss in places, I’ve never seen, bitch you know what I meaann!” Kylo sang into the empty Corona bottle he was holding. We’d just finished playing the flip cup game and were now doing karaoke. The kids were asleep and all the grown folks were down here participating. As always, it was men versus the women. Kylo, Ken, Leedale, and Kaivon had the spotlight while Trigg, Derrick and I played the background. I did a little two step to the beat of the song to make it like I was doing something. Drinking wasn’t really my thing, but I took shots with them still. I was feeling good, damn near drunk.

“They call me K-a-i-v-o-n-L-e-w-i-s, now baby tell me what you wanna do to me,” Kaivon went on. The shit was so funny because he really blended it to the beat. We sang to the rest of the song and clapped.

“Give it up for yourselves!” Ken fanned his hands upwards.

“Booooooo!” The women dragged.

“I give it a zero out of ten,” Ida Mae commented making us laugh.

“Ain’t this supposed to be a Christmas karaoke? Yall up here slow rolling and humping the air. I am overstimulated!” Mama Ivory fussed.

“And don’t forget disgusted,” Mama Nova added playfully turning her nose up.

“Aight yall want a Christmas song? Say less. Nugget give me a beat.” Kylo started beating on the table Nova was sitting at in front of the fireplace. The beat he created had everybody rocking and I instantly got in tune with it. “Jingle bells. Jingle bells. We be killing niggas every day.”

“And if that nigga in our way, then pow pow, bitch you layyy. Aye!” Ken said and we all hollered. Kylo started beating on the table harder.

“Jingle bells. Jingle bells. These bitches be fake,” Kylo rapped.

“Buss my nut on her face and then I got to skate. Hey!” I chimed in.

“Ayyeeee!” We started jumping up and down. The woman fought it for a minute but eventually started laughing and clapping. I don’t even know what I said but it rhymed so fuck it.

“Aye, that shit was hard. I can’t even lie!” Harlee reached to dap Kylo. When he met her halfway, she moved her hand and snatched the bottle from his hands. “Head ass. Yall gone on! We finna show y'all how to do it. Ain’t that right Mama Nova?”

Nova nodded, smiling when Innocent kissed her cheek. “Mhmm.”

We sat down to watch their show. The women gathered around Nova and Ida Mae who were their hype women. Mama Ivory and her rosy cheeks were up dancing to the beat that began to play. It was hard as fuck not to keep my eyes on Capri. Each time I peeled my eyes away from her swaying body, they found their way right back. It would take me days, years even to form the words that described how beautiful she was to me from head to toe. Thick in the fucking ankles just how I liked them.
